The Live Namibia SLM Initiative
The Live Namibia Small Language Model (SLM) is a community-driven project dedicated to developing accessible, reliable translation tools for Namibia’s indigenous languages. Our country is rich in linguistic diversity, and we believe technology should support, rather than diminish, this heritage.
Our Core Mission
- Bridging Communication: To provide accurate and easy-to-use translation between English and languages like Oshiwambo, Khoekhoegowab, Otjiherero, RuKwangali, Silozi, and San.
- Language Preservation: To serve as a digital archive and living dictionary, helping new generations learn and use their native tongues.
- Community Contribution: We rely entirely on the knowledge and dedication of our users. Every phrase, word, and correction submitted helps strengthen the model for everyone.
Contribution is Key
Unlike large commercial models, the quality of this SLM directly reflects the dedication of its contributors. Check the translation capability status on each language page—it's a direct measure of how complete and accurate that language's dictionary is. We encourage you to log in and become a contributor today!
